Chin Up Buttercup | On Choosing Joy

“I want a life that sizzles and pops and makes me laugh out loud. And I don’t want to get to the end, or to tomorrow, even, and realize that my life is a collection of meetings and pop cans and errands and receipts and dirty dishes. I want to eat cold tangerines and sing out loud in the car with the windows open and wear pink shoes and stay up all night laughing and paint my walls the exact color of the sky right now. I want to sleep hard on clean white sheets and throw parties and eat ripe tomatoes and read books so good they make me jump up and down, and I want my everyday to make God belly laugh, glad that he gave life to someone who loves the gift.” ― Shauna Niequist

Yes, there is heartbreak, sadness, shame, and brokenness-but we have so many reasons for JOY. It’s easy to focus on the negative, but the good in your life is always there-you just have to choose it. Do something this weekend that isn’t on a to-do list, isn’t accomplishing your 5-year plan, and that doesn’t fall in the “should” category. There will always be dreary Mondays & frustrations & difficult coworkers, but Fridays & HOPE & surprising joy are always just around the corner. You have to choose to be joyful, no matter what life hands you. Will you choose joy today?

Do something this weekend that makes you giddy with joy. Tell us what you plan to do and give us some ideas!

I plan to make a cake and see old friends. I’m back in England after 4 months away so even the simple things are bringing me joy this weekend!

We’re in Birmingham this weekend. It’s always a nostalgic weekend when we’re hear. I took a drive on Samford’s campus and sat on the quad and thought back over my precious college days there. They were wonderful years and God taught me so much. (and gave me D.R. :) ) Hope you’re enjoying your weekend too!!! Did you run the Rock & Roll 1/2?
