Laughter Makes The Heart Grow Fonder
With one year of marriage under our belts, Michael and I are far from pros. We are still stumbling our way towards deeper love and by no means have all the answers. However, we do know if there is anything that draws us closer and feeds our soul it is laughter.
We celebrated our one year wedding anniversary on Monday. Michael woke me up with a display on the kitchen island of flowers, Starbucks, and breakfast. We spent the morning drinking our coffee and devouring our pastries. Well. . .not exactly true. I devoured my crumb cake, & Mr. Healthy ate his oatmeal.
Michael had beautiful flowers delivered to my office! After work, we went on a run together and spent the late afternoon cooking tilapia fish tacos and black rice with mango salsa. And of course, homemade mojitos were in order.
“What are some of your favorite memories from the past year?” Michael asked me and a discussion ensued about all our great memories. Michael loves to laugh more than anything else, so naturally the first memory he mentioned involved me planking in various places to make him laugh. One day he took out the trash and I jumped on top of the washing machine and ‘surprise planked’ for his return. The picture below is me planking in the lobby of Thomas Nelson. I was petrified one of our big authors like Max Lucado or Sarah Young or [heaven forbid] our CEO would walk through the doors, but fortunately I was safe. I am not a center-of-attention-jokster kind of gal, but it’s amazing what we do for love.
We laughed about our arguments and one in particular about the ice-cube trays. One morning after a disagreement, Michael yelled, “And you didn’t even fill up the ice-cube trays?!” out the door as I was climbing in my car. He later called me and said,”I don’t ever want to yell the word ice-cube trays again.” We laughed and laughed and whatever we argued about did not matter anymore. I love memories like these where we remember the important stuff: our love and commitment to each other. It’s critical not to take ourselves too seriously and hold onto petty disagreements.
We ended the night with taking Runnin’ Bear out for a spin to pick up our wedding video and some ice cream. We finished the night off-like we did last year-with a dance party. Let’s just say I can’t do a body roll, but we’ve never laughed so hard.
Here’s to laughing our way through our 2nd, 3rd, and 50th year of marriage!
