Why Does God Choose Us?

The last command of Jesus was to “Go”. To take His message to the ends of the earth-that all may know the Savior of the World and the One True God. The Great Commission.

When I was living in China as a missionary, I often wondered why God chooses us-sinful, screwed up people-to do His work here on earth. Our team was a mess. The language was nearly impossible. Often, I didn’t feel like didn’t I was accomplishing much of anything. Which led to the question…If God is all-powerful, why do we have to go to uncomfortable places […the ends of the earth] and experience all kinds of suffering and confusion and language barriers? Why doesn’t He just send angels from the heavens to hand out booklets and be done with it? Why does He even put up with people like me trying?

Why do you choose us, God? You created the heavens, the human body, and raised your Son from the dead-why do you need us to do your work?

My answer came in verse below:

“You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD,
“and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.” Isaiah 43:10

God wants us to know Him above all else. The goal of missions, serving others, and sharing the Gospel is simply to know Him more. To know in every ounce of our being that He is the One True God and is desperately needed by everyone on the face of the planet.

Makes you stop and think, doesn’t it? Come back tomorrow for What Would You Do If You Knew You Couldn’t Fail?

    Dear Ruthie,
I am Lydia. Recently I have been asking this same question to God – ” Why did he choose us?” Thanks for writing this to encourage people like you and like me! So good to know you are doing well and ministering people this way! I am so proud of you! Your husband is very handsome and looks very kind and gentle. happy for you!!
I read this passage yesterday and meditate on it . That could be another reason why He has chosen us-
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”[a]

    Keep in touch,

    Lydia

  1. […] God chose you. He gave us a way out of eternal suffering when Romans says we were His enemies. We can live with hope, because whatever we experience is not the end. He is a good Dad and is never out to punish us. There is always a reason to choose joy. You may think circumstances show God couldn’t possibly love you, but the Cross speaks the opposite. […]
